Creative Ways to Find Domain Names…

Struggling to find an available domain name for your business?

We know that sometimes it’s a challenge. After all, there are nearly 130 million registered .com domain names. Even other extensions are getting crowded. For example, people currently use over 15 million .net domains.

This means you might need to become more creative to find an available domain name.

Start or End with Additional Words

One of the simplest ways to find an available domain is to add a word before or after the name you want. For example, instead of JeffsPlumbing.com (which is already registered) you can get JeffsPlumbingOnline.com (which is available).

Five years ago, LeanDomainSearch analyzed the top prefixes and suffixes to figure out what people are using. Here’s what they found.

Top prefixes:

Top Suffixes:

  • +Online
  • +Web
  • +Media
  • +World
  • +Net

You’ll notice that online is one of the most popular keywords, and this has been the case for many years. It’s one of the most common terms people add to a domain. In fact, if you want to go crazy, there’s even a new .online domain name extension.

More Ideas to Find Domain Names

Below are some other ideas for words you can add to the beginning or ending of your desired name to find an available domain.

Get+ and +App

Lots of companies that create a website to promote an app are using the prefix Get (e.g. GetApp.com) because it implies someone can “get the app”. Another simple option is to add App to the end of your domain (e.g. CoolStuffApp.com).

+City+

If you are a local business, consider adding your city name before or after your business name or a term that describes your business. This has the added benefit of telling people you’re local which might result in better search rankings, more people visiting your site and higher trust.

+Shop and +Store

Setting up an online store? Adding one of these words to your domain will make it easier to find an available domain name while also telling people they can buy online at your website. You can also purchase .shop and .store domain extensions.

+Blog

If you’re one of the millions of people starting a blog, add blog to the end of your desired name to find a good domain you can register, or register your site with the .blog domain extension.

Get creative!

Despite so many good domain names being taken, millions of new domain names are registered every month. Get creative with by adding one of these prefixes or suffixes to your domain name and then register it at Namecheap.
