You want to start a blog.
You already have it in your head all of the great of things you want to write about.
You’ve learned how to use WordPress and now it’s time to jump in and get started.
But you need a name. What is the best domain name for your blog to attract tons of visitors to your site?
First let me say that picking a domain name isn’t always easy, especially since you only have one chance to get it right!
So I’m going to share four tips that’ll help you make the right choice the first time.
Tip number 1 – Create a domain name that is short
One of the key things to keep in mind when choosing your WordPress domain name is the length.
Shorter is always better because it makes it easy for your visitors to remember, as well as type.
Tip number 2 – Use your Keywords
While you don’t want to ‘keyword stuff’ your domain name (because you may risk an SEO penalty) there’s no harm in squeezing your keywords into the domain name if it makes sense to do so.
Not only will this help search engines to determine the relevance of your website in relation to your keywords, but it also helps to give a new visitor some idea of what your website is about.
Tip number 3 – Avoid hyphens and numbers
There’s no denying that some businesses make great use of hyphens and numbers within their domain name.
But as a general rule of thumb, it’s best to avoid doing this unless you have a very good reason.
Of course, if the hyphen or number is part of your business name, then by all means use it in your younique domain name.
However, if you’re using a hyphen or number just to make your domain name work (perhaps because the better version is already taken) then it’s usually wise to go back to the drawing board and come up with a new domain name.
Tip number 4 – Use an appropriate extension
There are a variety of interesting and fun domain extensions to choose from these days.
Of course there is dot COM, dot NET and dot ORG.
There are also extensions like dot ME, dot NAME, dot TV, dot TRAVEL and so on and so on.
But before you splash out into the world with something unusual, keep in mind that each extension has it’s own designated use.
For example, there are some domain extensions that are geographic in nature like dot UK .
If you live in the U.S. and you pick a dot UK extension, there’s always the risk of your search engine rankings becoming ‘regionalized’, and this can ultimately have a negative effect on the amount of traffic to your site.
So finding a domain name with a dot COM extension is the best way to go if you are building a business in the U.S.
Not that those other extensions are bad.
It’s just that dot COM is the most universally expected.
So, If you keep these ideas in mind for choosing your blogger domain name, then your task should be much easier.
